I
studied jewelry under Philip Fike at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan
- receiving my degree in Fine Arts in 1960.
While studying with Philip, I developed a design philosophy which has
stayed with me throughout the years. Influenced
by the Bauhaus teachings, I truly believe that good design in any field -
including jewelry - can be based on the principles of “Form Follows
Function” and “Less is More”. Consequently,
my designs are generally of a minimalist and contemporary nature.
Philosophically,
I feel my primary objective as a jewelry designer is to produce jewelry
which, with simple
elegance of design and material, imparts an additional sense of joy and beauty
to both wearer and beholder.
In
addition to managing business operations, my
wife B J, has become so involved
with all aspects of creating jewelry that now we can proudly claim that
practically every piece is touched by both of us - a true partnership and
collaboration of two full-time professional jewelers!
Since all of our work is hand-crafted by us in our studio in Palatine,
Illinois, we proudly hand sign each
individual piece upon completion.
Our
current work focuses on three basic materials - natural crystals & stones,
cultured pearls & pearl blisters, and fused dichroic glass- set in 14k gold
or sterling. Each material forms a
separate design collection. Jewelry
from these collections is exhibited in numerous fine art and craft galleries
throughout the U.S. Please
e-mail or call for a current list of the galleries showing our designs.
