There are many attributes that should be taken into consideration in order to assign a value to an individual pearl. We will talk about these and give you the information you require in order to make a good selection. Remember: just because someone has told you that a certain pearl is good, it does not necessarily mean that it is really good. Use knowledge, information and common sense in order to find the truth.

The unique attributes of a Pearl -those that make it a special gem- are also the ones that give it value and they are:

1. Size
2. Luster
3. Shape
4. Surface Purity
5. Orient/Overtones

There are other considerations as well, such as the origin of the pearl's color, pearl processing, rarity (production volume) and even its color. Color has not been given a special place in the list, because we felt this attribute is well covered under the Orient/Overtones subject.
