{"id":11137,"date":"2021-09-11T16:27:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-11T16:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/perlas.com.mx\/en\/?p=11137"},"modified":"2022-10-04T20:42:55","modified_gmt":"2022-10-04T20:42:55","slug":"the-2021-cortez-pearl-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/perlas.com.mx\/en\/the-2021-cortez-pearl-harvest\/","title":{"rendered":"The 2021 Cortez Pearl Harvest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just like every year during June, we closed a 4-year process and the time for us to harvest our oysters arrives. &#8220;<em>Pteria sterna<\/em>&#8221; oysters\u00a0create the most colorful pearls in the world; years of care and protection are needed so that they\u00a0can complete their life cycle in cultivation, and also be able to contribute to the preservation of the local species and the ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Fortunately, this 2021 we were pleasantly surprised, having the second best harvest with over 5,000 pearls of beautiful natural colors as well as different shapes and sizes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1196\/3508\/files\/IMG_1216_480x480.jpg?v=1631220148\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Each pearl is evaluated individually to grade their attributes and determine their quality. This is very important for us, since our main focus is to keep only the best ones. Our pearls must reach a minimum mother-of-pearl thickness of 2-3 mm, and have a final size greater than 8.0 mm in diameter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1196\/3508\/files\/IMG_0863_480x480.jpg?v=1631221317\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the harvest, the founders and experts at the Sea of \u200b\u200bCortez Pearl Farm select the pearls that will pass the quality standards that we have, this\u00a0asures\u00a0the pearl will last generation after generation -with proper care-.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to grading pearls, it is a combination of traits what determines the value of a pearl\u00a0at the end.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Color<\/li>\n<li>Luster<\/li>\n<li>Size<\/li>\n<li>Cleaness of Surface<\/li>\n<li>Shape<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Learn more at <a style=\"text-align: center\" title=\"Pearl Grading\" href=\"https:\/\/perlas.com.mx\/en\/pearl-value\/\">Value of a Pearl<\/a><span style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0(English)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1196\/3508\/files\/IMG_1026_480x480.jpg?v=1631221498\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Rainbow Lip Oyster or &#8220;Concha N\u00e1car&#8221; as locals know them, are the artist of this real treasure from the sea. This oyster produces pearls in a wide range of colors, many of them with more than one color on them. Without a doubt, a unique and beautiful attribute that only Mexican pearls have.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/1196\/3508\/files\/conchas_480x480.jpg?v=1631302031\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Every year we learn something new, and here is\u00a0some\u00a0very interesting data about we noticed from the pearls of this 2021 harvest.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Good size pearls, although not as big as the pearls from 2020: 9.40 vs 9.62 mm<\/li>\n<li>Pearl Quality, 2020 harvest had better quality pearls than 2021 harvest (11%), but still maintaining a good percentage to position itself in the second best harvest.<\/li>\n<li>Several pearls larger than 10 mm were obtained, although in 2020, there were 2% more in that group, than in this year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">This is a comparison of the main groups, there were other minor subgroups.
